Raw Materials of Honeysuckle

from Two Organic Farming Parks in Taiwan

This item is the dried flower buds or freshly bloomed flowers of Lonicera japonica Thunb. Honeysuckle does not wither through winter, and is also known as Winter-Tolerant. The flowers are white (silver) when they first bloom, and turn yellow (gold) 2-3 days after blooming. The old and new are in harmony, and the yellow and white complement each other, hence the name of honeysuckle also means Gold-Silver flower.

Growing Traditional Chinese Herbal Materials Locally

Ensures the Quality and Stable Supply

Taiwan relies on a high proportion of imported raw materials for traditional Chinese medicines. Changes in international supply affect the quality and price of traditional Chinese medicines. Pharmacist Lin, the founder of Acrobio, has been thinking since 2019, "To maintain the quality and stable supply of Chinese medicine raw materials, the ideal is to grow locally as much as possible."

Local cultivation meets not only the self-sufficiency of the supply for medicinal materials, but also the maintenance of the active ingredients of herbal medicines. We cooperated with the Graduate Institute of Natural Products of a medical university at Kaohsiung City in Taiwan, and identified the selected medicinal herb, honeysuckle base upon industrial-academia collaboration projects, and began the contract planting with local small farmers to produce it from early 2019.

From March 2023, we started to manage our own medicine garden and control the quality of each step from planting to processing. Geographical environment and climatic conditions of Taiwan are suitable for honeysuckle, so that the active ingredients within raw materials are of relatively good quality, and comply with the verification of the organic park where the raw materials being grown without concern about residues of pesticide or of heavy metals.

The one-stop business model from contract farming to final products, integrating steps from production to marketing, not only ensures the quality of raw materials production, but also benefits the local farmers, creates a win-win situation.

Stabilizing supply and demand via planting to marketing

Being benefit to farmers thus a win-win situation

Honeysuckle has been known to be useful in treating inflammation and eliminating pathogens in one of the most famous Chinese pharmacopoeias from the 16th century. It contains various active ingredients such as chlorogenic acid (CHA), isochlorogenic acid, luteolin, inositol, and saponin that can be used to fight against pathogenic microorganisms. It has anti-infection, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and immune-regulating effects, and is of certain significance in treating symptoms such as wind-heat, colds, and sore throat.

Therefore, many cold and anti-inflammatory herbal medicines on the market contain honeysuckle, which is often used for respiratory health care.

Development and applications: Herbal health supplements, hydrosol, toner, facial cleansing mousse, intimate spray, and tea bags, etc.

Raw material inspection and control to ensure quality

  • Active ingredient (CHA) far exceeds the specification value of 1.5% in the "Taiwan Herbal Pharmacopoeia"
  • Passed inspections for heavy metals, plasticizers, and pesticide residues, with an available Chemical Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
